Good Morning Cannabis? The Art of the Wake and Bake

Cannabis for breakfast anyone?
Cannabis for breakfast anyone?

People utilize cannabis in a variety of ways for a variety of benefits, but sometimes what you need most is to connect with the plant on the simplest of levels. A wake and bake is one of the humblest pleasures in which a cannabis enthusiast can partake, and there are endless options for curating an ideal set and setting for you.

What is a Wake and Bake?

A wake and bake is just what it sounds like: consuming cannabis as soon as you wake up.

When done right, a wake and bake can set the standard for an amazing day full of self-reflection and soul-cleansing – or simply provide you with a relaxed enough mindset to get through whatever you need to accomplish.

However, if you’re not careful, a wake and bake can set you up for a day full of procrastination and laziness – especially if you consume more than you can handle first thing in the morning.

In order to avoid this, make sure to know your limit and best method of consumption. You may also want to make sure you don’t have anything super important or stressful to handle throughout the day, especially if you have trouble being productive when you consume cannabis.

But try not to overthink it – as long as you stay honest with yourself, you should be fine.

How to Execute Your Best Wake and Bake Yet

As long as you’re in the right mindset, a wake and bake can be one of the most powerful ways to start out your day. Many consumers use their cannabis-infused morning to meditate, reflect, stretch, work out, listen to music, or simply gear up before taking on a full schedule.

There are several ways to figure out a wake and bake routine that works best for you, but we’ve learned over time that the easiest way to approach it is to address all of your senses: sight, smell, sound, taste, and touch.

Cannabis is recognized for its alleged ability to enhance our senses. This explains why food always tastes better after a joint – why your love for music seems to multiply tenfold once the edible finally kicks in.

If you want to make the most out of your wake and bake, take the day prior to plan out some activities that allow you to connect with the plant and stimulate all of your senses. Then, get ready to experience your most well-rounded wake and bake ever.

  • Sight:

This is perhaps one of the most obvious senses to take care of: look at something nice. You can plan a day trip to a museum, round up a collection of your favorite magazines to flip through, or even dig up some old photos of your own to peruse and reminisce over.

Are you seeking creative stimulation? A trip down memory lane? A newfound knowledge? Figure out where you want your head to be for the day, and take your selections from there.

  • Smell:

Aromatherapy is popular within the wellness community, and whether or not there’s power behind what scents you inhale, it’s safe to say it at least makes for a pleasant experience.

To optimize your wake and bake, set up your environment in a way that pleases your nose – light some candles, rub on some essential oils, or even bake a batch of cookies. Your stoned self will thank you for the snack later.

  • Sound:

This is one of the most satisfying senses to target when you’re high – how else was music that good in the ’70s? Cannabis has always allowed consumers to dig deeper and really connect with the music they’re listening to, so layer your wake and bake with an amazing playlist.

Of course, it doesn’t have to stop with music. You can also queue up some engaging podcasts, have a productive conversation with a friend, or just go outside and listen to the world turn.

  • Taste:

As satisfying as it is to listen to a fire guitar riff after you’ve smoked a joint, it almost pales in comparison to how those fries you ordered taste. In honor of the beautiful concept of “munchies,” continue to perfect your wake and bake session by preparing yourself an epic meal.

Since you wake and bake first thing in the morning, you might want to opt for a traditional breakfast, but the world is your oyster and the kitchen is your castle. Make your favorite meal, whatever it may be, and savor every bite.

Oh, and if you want to ensure you keep that cerebral edge throughout the day, you might want to eat before getting high.

  • Touch:

For the final sense, touch, there’s almost no limit to what you can do to feel fulfilled. Play an instrument. Sketch a drawing. Write in your journal. Draw yourself a bath. Give yourself a foot massage. Do some yoga.

Do something that’s going to feel good not only tactilely, but also internally. Cannabis is what helps us connect with ourselves and the world around us. Use this experience to really tap in, listen, and give yourself what you need.

Happy waking and baking.
