Purple moonrocks are as creative as they are potent. While the average cannabis bud can still pack a punch, it might not be enough for more experienced users.

But if you have some purple weed, hash oil, and kief, those are all you need to quickly make purple moonrocks and take your cannabis experience to a whole new level.

Although purple moonrocks' telltale color makes them stand out, they're no different than other moonrocks.

Moonrocks (purple or otherwise) are some of the most potent dry-herb cannabis products. If you want to add extra potency to your ground flower easily, these products can give you the best taste and smoke you'll get from cannabis bud.

What are Purple Moonrocks?

The noticeable color appears if producers use a purple strain, like Purple Haze or Grape Ape. Most moonrocks are green, with Girl Scout Cookies being the preferred strain – although any will do.

You can't see beyond the sandy coating covering the nugs beneath. But it's this layering that separates moonrocks from the average cannabis flower.

In total, there are three different sections to moon rock weed. In order from top to bottom, we have kief, hash oil, and bud.

Kief forms a moon rock's outer covering. This powdery substance is harvested from the crystalline trichomes - specifically their heads - found on the host plant.

Hash Oil makes up the middle layer. According to one study, unlike kief, this concentrate can hit THC levels as high as 90 percent.

Bud composes the center layer. It's the least potent of all three ingredients, maxing out at around 25 to (occasionally) 30 percent.

Are Purple Moonrocks Indica or Sativa?

Purple strains are either indica or indica-dominant hybrids. This is because purple weed is native to cooler areas of Asia. The small, bushy indica structure is better suited for that climate.

How Potent Are Purple Moonrocks Compared to Other Weed Products?

Purple weed is certainly interesting to look at, but the telltale color isn't indicative of potency. Genetics, environment, nutrition, and growing techniques are just a few factors that determine a plant's cannabinoid, terpene, and flavonoid concentrations.

While they're not the most potent cannabis products on the planet compared to pure concentrates, moonrocks of all colors have taken cannabis bud and kicked it into high gear with the hash oil and kief.

Their potency depends on the kief, hash oil, and bud used. But all moonrocks typically carry a 50 percent THC rating, making for an intense high. Thanks to the kief and hash oil, the product also boasts a robust and diverse combination of cannabinoids and terpenes.

Are Purple Moonrocks Dangerous?

Despite their strength, purple moonrocks aren't any more dangerous than other cannabis products. There isn't a single recorded death related to THC consumption.

However, that doesn't mean you shouldn't be careful. Weed temporarily raises your heart rate and may cause racing thoughts. Both of these can be a problem for those with anxiety and other medical conditions that affect mental or cardiovascular health.

Too much THC may also lead to symptoms like dizziness, nausea, and severe paranoia – essentially, a THC "overdose" referred to as "greening out."

Choose the Right Oil for Your Moonrocks

Anyone who understands hash oil knows that extracting the plant compounds requires some solvent. Butane is a standard option, easily identifiable by its name, "butane hash oil" (BHO).

However, butane is one of the most dangerous, toxic solvents available (if made improperly). When choosing your oil, always look up the extraction method for your product. Keep an eye out for things like CO2 extraction, which is an industrial process that's as squeaky clean as it gets.

If you're more of a DIY person and want to make your own oil, you can also use a solventless method, like ice, or a less toxic option, such as grain alcohol. Even the most skilled cooks can make mistakes. The problem with butane is that one mistake could result in serious property damage or injury. If BHO is your favorite form of hash oil, buy it at a legal dispensary if possible.

The Benefits of Moon Rock Weed

For recreational users, the benefits of all moonrocks are pretty straightforward – they get you high. But for medical consumers, these products could be life-changing.

Medical marijuana is legal in over half the U.S., but not every dispensary in every state has taken an average cannabis bud and turned it into a moonrock powerhouse. This is too bad because some symptoms are so intense or persistent that regular bud won't cut it. Given that, it's no surprise that so many patients have taken an average cannabis flower and upped the ante.

Studies indicate that THC may be effective in pain reduction, stimulating appetite, and nausea relief. Depending on the person, too much THC could have the opposite effect, exacerbating their symptoms.

Anecdotal evidence is the primary source when it comes to the benefits of moonrocks, but it's compelling enough to be worth a try if your tolerance is too high for plain flower.

How to Make Purple Moonrocks

Purple moonrocks are potent and easy to make. Just buy Purple Haze, Purple Urkle, Sour Grape, or any other purple strain. Pick up some hash oil and either buy purple kief at a dispensary (if available) or collect it from some of your purple flower.

Hopefully, by now, you're excited about purple moonrocks – or at least curious enough to try them. Perhaps laws in your state won't allow you to buy purple moonrocks, either due to product restrictions or cannabis prohibition. But making your own moon rock weed requires very little time or effort, as long as you have the necessary ingredients.

Ingredients

  • Purple cannabis strain
  • Hash oil
  • Purple kief
  • Tongs
  • Dropper

Step 1: Gather Your Kief

Get as much kief as possible, either from your grinder or a licensed dispensary (where available).

Step 2: Add the Hash Oil

This is a step that some people get wrong. Your first instinct might be to dip the nug into the oil; don't do this! Too much oil will make your nugs hard to light and consequently increases drying time.

Instead, use the dropper to gradually apply the hash oil all around the bud until fully coated.

Step 3: Add Kief

Once everything's covered, pick up the nug with your tongs and roll it around in the kief until it completely covers the bud.

Repeat this process until you have an adequate supply ready.

Step 4: Dry the Moonrocks

Place the nugs to dry at room temperature on a flat, non-stick surface. The time it takes can vary from hours to days, depending on how much oil you used. That's why the dropper method is ideal since you can keep the layer thin enough to dry relatively quickly.

If all goes well, you'll have a delightful new batch of purple moonrocks offering the best taste and smoke compared to dry herb alone.

How to Smoke Moon Rocks

Smoking is the only way to consume moonrocks, but the process is slightly different from bud alone.

First, don't break down the bud with a grinder because the sticky oil will jam it. Meanwhile, you'll lose a lot of kief. Make sure you use a hash bowl or pipe - ideally glass.

It's also a good idea to place the moonrock pieces onto a bed of dried flower. This helps keep the moonrocks lit, as they might struggle to hold a flame alone.

Finally, light up and brace yourself!

  • Enjoy Safely! Purple moonrocks are potent, especially if you've never tried them before. Here are a few ways to make your first moonrock experience - and subsequent ones - memorable in a positive way.
  • Stay Hydrated. Always have water handy. Cannabis lovers are painfully aware of dry mouth and how thirsty weed can make you. Water is also helpful to wet your throat if you're prone to coughing fits.
  • Use Moonrocks With a Friend. Even the best-laid plans can go south. The last thing you want is to get too high or sick with nobody around to keep you grounded in reality. Always have someone with you who understands moonrocks and cannabis concentrates.
  • Start Low and Go Slow. If you've never tried moonrocks, don't smoke an entire nug straight away. Try a little and monitor how you feel first. The good thing about smoking is you'll know within moments if you've had too much.
If you feel dizzy, nauseous, or generally uncomfortable, pull the plug immediately.
  • Get Creative. The great thing about purple moonrocks is that they don't have to follow a strict formula. The three-layered structure allows for different strain combinations. Play around with the ingredients to fine-tune your experience.

Where to Buy Purple Moonrocks

You can buy purple moonrocks online or possibly from dispensaries. Be wary of online "gray market" sources, as the illegal nature and lack of regulation mean you don't know what you're getting - especially with hash oil.
