Have scientists stumbled upon cannabis fossils in Israel?
That appears to be the case, according to a report by CNN.
The outlet recently reported that cannabis resin was found on what experts believe was an alter in the “Holy of Holies,” an ancient shrine dating back to 750 BCE.
Experts in Tel Aviv reportedly believe cannabis was used as part of a hallucinogenic tribal ceremony, CNN reported. The cannabis used by the “cult of Judah” was likely imported in the form of hashish.
In the full study, published by the Tel Aviv's Journal of the Institute of Archaeology of Tel Aviv University, experts said the find is "the first such evidence in the cult of Judah."
None of this should be surprising as a 2019 study by the Chinese Academy of Sciences reported clear physical evidence that inhabitants of the Pamir Mountains in Western China used marijuana's intoxicating smoke in burial ceremonies over 2500 years ago.
