How did you celebrate National Brownie Day on December 8?
The Massachusetts-based MariMed, Inc. rocked the weird holiday with style, baking what is believed to be the world’s largest ever cannabis brownie.
Weighing in at 850 pounds with 20,000 mg of THC, this gargantuan pot brownie shatters the Guinness World record for largest brownie (the previous world’s largest brownie was a measly 243 pounds).
“Unfortunately, Guinness World Records rejected our entry because they don’t accept cannabis related records,” said Ryan Crandall, MariMed’s chief product officer. “That was a disappointment, but we’re still very proud of what we accomplished!”
The brownie, which measures three feet by three feet and stands 15 inches tall, was unveiled as part of the launch for MariMed’s new line of edibles called Buddy’s Baked.
A team of five people spent more than 24 hours baking this massive concoction, which includes:
- 1344 eggs,
- 113kg of sugar
- 96kg of butter
- 2.4kg of vanilla extract
- 36kg of flour
- 900g of baking powder
- 1.3kg of salt
- 55kg of cocoa powder
"Bubby’s Baked fills a big hole in the edibles market that cannabis consumers crave – high-quality, delicious baked goods that stay moist and chewy," Crandall said in a news release.
"For many of us, homemade brownies were our first taste of cannabis-infused edibles. Bubby’s recreates and elevates that nostalgic experience, infusing full-spectrum, craft-quality cannabis into timeless recipes, for a reliable high reminiscent of simpler times."
This Brownie is a Case Study in Bad Nutrition
Apparently, MariMed is looking for a medical cannabis patient who would like to purchase this giant-ass brownie.
However, according to the ingredients list, this brownie has very little nutritional value.
If MariMed’s new line of products contain similar ingredients, cannabis lovers who treasure their health will want to be careful.
For instance, regular intake of white flour or so-called “enriched flour” can contribute to fatty liver and elevation of bad cholesterol, which could lead to high blood pressure, weight gain, and mood swings, according to nutritionist Nmami Agarwal.
Too much white flour can also lead to higher acidity levels in the body, causing issues like chronic inflammation, which can lead to other illnesses.
It can interfere with your gut and digestion as well, slowing metabolism and causing constipation, stress, weight gain, and headaches.
And what about all that sugar in the brownie?
If you are dealing with chronic health issues and/or would like to prevent chronic health issues, added sugars are among your worst enemies.
According to Healthline, too much sugar causes all sorts of issues in the body.
Too much sugar can potentially raise your risk of weight gain, heart disease, diabetes, cancer, inflammation, and depression.
It can also increase aging of your skin and your cells, drain your energy, fatten up your liver, mess up your teeth, your kidney, and cognitive function.
Medical Cannabis Only One Piece of the Health Puzzle
If you’re dealing with chronic health issues or wish to avoid chronic health issues, hyper-focusing on cannabis as a go-to solution is a mistake.
Yes, it targets the endocannabinoid system (ECS), which is why cannabis works for so many different illnesses, however, the ECS also needs physical activity, good nutrition, and stress reduction if you want to get the most out of your health.
Sorry, MariMed but you are actually doing a disservice to medical cannabis patients with ingredients like this.
And MariMed isn’t the only one.
Lots of cannabis edibles are full of junk, and most people don’t know a whole lot about healthy lifestyle choices anyways.
Case in point, none of the mainstream media coverage caught any of this either. Of course not. What's not to like about the world's biggest pot brownie?
Essentially, MariMed has missed an opportunity with their Buddy’s Baked line.
How can you call your products ‘quality’ when they have so much junk in them, ingredients proven to make people sick over the long-term?
If you want to add value to your present and future customers, why not focus more on health-conscious ingredients?
That’s a story with telling.
